Common and Preferred Shares

Quote and Chart Search

You can search for stocks, futures,
and forex by symbol or name.
Common shares come with certain rights and privileges of ownership. Common share holders have the right to vote in company matters.

A common share - gives you the right to vote for the company’s board of directors and top officers. Depending on how well the company does the board may or may not elect to pay out dividends on the common shares.

A company may also sell Preferred Shares, which allow no voting rights, but quite often have guaranteed dividends attached.

The biggest risk with owning stock is owning -- just one. Having all your eggs in one basket. Your investments must be diversified.
